106 immigrants brought ashore

A group of 106 illegal immigrants were yesterday brought ashore after their rubber dinghy began taking in water at about 3.30 p.m.
The armed forces said 87 men and 19 women, were taken aboard a patrol boat after they were found drifting 42 nautical miles southwest of the island after their engine stopped.
An aircraft on patrol also flew over the illegal immigrants to establish exactly what assistance was needed.
However, although they were crammed on to the dinghy, they were all in good health. The illegal immigrants, who were brought ashore in the evening and handed over to the police, claimed to be Eritreans.
There were no children on board.
This first boatload in two months, this brought the total number of illegal immigrants brought ashore this year to 1,131, arriving in 12 boats. In the same period last year, 2,568 arrived in 82 boats.

There is nothing strange here. What is strange is the behavior of the Maltese government. It allows people to enter and occupy Malta illegally, and it allows people to essentially eradicate bird life on Malta. The onus is squarely on the Maltese government.

Eritreans had been dispatched back previously (by air and at our cost).
So what's the problem in them this batch again.
It is worthwhile noting that not only this latest batch was in good health, but they were also well clothed totally unlike the ones we see on TV. It is definitely a case where those who have money can emigrate unlike the poor souls who are in real need of assistance.
What on earth is the Department for Third Country Nationals doing?
Can anyone assure me that all those involved in dealing with this problem are working in our interests?

It is quite strange how humans behave. There is much interest, from other EU countries and organisations viz hunting and animal cruelty, however very little as regards the lives of immigrants arriving on our shores and their distribution to other countries. Something is really wrong here!!!

In the good old days boats carried only 27 illegal immigrants. Now each boat carries 100+, that is as many as 4 boats in the past. I call that progress and a sign of Dr Gonzi's pair of safe hands.

Gaddafi wants us to co operate in the Lockerbie re the Maltese merchant. Now is our chance to negotiate. He takes the unwanted illegal immigrants, accept those that we return in the rescue process and do not let them leave his shores illegally. Than he will have our full co-operation

"first boatload in two months"
You need to do some more research. During September there were incidents of illegal immigration on the 2nd, 15th and 22nd.
This year there has been 16 incidents so far: http://www.mein.it/malta_illegal_immigration/

Why where they brought ashore and not taken on another boat and sent back to where they came from ?
We are supposed to send a CLEAR message to them that Malta will not become Africa's dumping ground .
When will Dr Gonzi as Prime Minister and head of the Armed Forces take example from the Italians who are sending ILLEGAL immigrants back .
Nobody wants them here ... Come next election , my vote will go to whoever puts Malta and the Maltese first and foremost .
