Heritage Malta last month filed an application to Mepa to start restoration works on the entrance of Fort St Angelo and other parts of the fort, Education and Culture Minister Dolores Cristina has said.

She explained in reply to a parliamentary question that parts of the historic fort were transferred to Heritage Malta in August last year. The agency immediately assigned a security officer to the entrance of the fort to stop unauthorised entry, vandalism and dumping.

Heritage Malta also took in hand a project to restore the arsenal (polverista) in collaboration with the Restoration Unit of the resources Ministry.

At the same time, studies and reports were compiled about necessary restoration works and an application was filed to Mepa in September.
