Transport Minister Austin Gatt has directed the Transport Authority (ADT) to show flexibility in the implementation of late payment fees introduced last week for overdue settlement of vehicle licences.

The minister in a directive to the authority, said that where the vehicle owners could not settle the overdue payments immediately, the ADT should demand immediate payment of 25% of the outstanding amounts while the rest would be settled in instalments over six months.

Until the overdue amounts are paid, the vehicle owners will have to deposit the number plates with the ADT and garage their vehicles.
