Police investigating the murder of a three-year-old girl yesterday named her as Bethany Marie Kennerley.
The toddler was pronounced dead in her home on Saturday morning after an ambulance arrived at the scene in Redwood Close, Cheadle Heath, near Stockport.
Paramedics alerted police who arrested Bethany’s mother on suspicion of murder.
The 43-year-old was taken to hospital and treated for superficial injuries to her wrists.
Yesterday, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said she remained in hospital for treatment.
A post-mortem examination is to take place today though police sources said the little girl’s body had no visible injuries.
Detectives are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. It is thought the family were unknown to social services.
The force would not go into details of what the contact involved but it is not believed to have involved violence or concern for safety.
Yesterday, the narrow street where the family lived remained quiet.
The crime scene was still cordoned off at the entrance to the road with few neighbours milling about.
A single bunch of flowers was placed against a wall bearing the message “Rest in peace, angel”.
