A Nigerian woman was yesterday charged with trying to leave the island with €30,000 in cash after informing Customs’ officials that she was carrying just under €10,000.

Atenuke Ugoji, 42, who lives in Italy, pleaded not guilty to making the false declaration on Friday afternoon when she was about to catch a flight to Brussels. She was remanded in police custody.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano presided over the sitting.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech and Yvonne Farrugia prosecuted while lawyer Anthony Cutajar represented the accused.
