In the article Piano Project Should Unite, Not Divide Us (October 1), Lawrence Gonzi is quoted as having said that “Freedom Square needed a new building to balance the existence of the block of apartments on the other side”.

Surely it is obvious to anyone else that the solution is to demolish those horrible socialist era flats and have St James and St John cavaliers exposed in their full glory and an expansive square in between. That would be an entrance fitting Valletta and not a hideous block of flats and shops on one side and a weird modern building on stilts sticking out like a sore thumb facing them.

But, in Dr Gonzi’s opinion, two wrongs make a right, as long as he gets his new playhouse.
