No fewer than 82 new models or facelifts were given their world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show which ended last Sunday.

This was the 63rd edition of the IAA Car show for which there were 753 exhibitors from 30 countries, including 62 vehicle manufacturers, occupying an exhibition area of 185,000 m2 spread over 11 halls.

There were 80 press conferences on the two press days that preceded the opening of the car show to the public, of which 55 were on the first day.

Among these world premieres were the Abarth 500 Assetto Corse and the Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari; Opel Astra, including the Astra ecoFLEX; Aston Martin Rapide four-door saloon; Audi A3 1.2 TFSI and S5 Sportback; BMW X1 and 5 Series Gran Turismo; Bentley Mulsanne; Citroen C3; Dacia Sandero Stepway; Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate and SLS AMG; Smart Fortwo electric drive; Porsche 911 Turbo and other derivatives; Fiat Punto Evo; Ford C-MAX and Grand C-MAX; Hyundai HND-5 ix-Metro, i10 electric and ix35; Kia cee’d and Venga; Lexus IS F; Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid; Maserati Gran Cabrio; Mazda CX-7; Peugeot 5008 and RCZ; Renault Fluence; Seat Altea Ecomotive; Skoda Octavia LPG; Subaru Legacy and Outback with Boxer diesels; Tesla Roadster Sport; Volkswagen Bluemotion versions of the Polo, Golf and Passat, plus the Golf and Scirocco R; Volvo C30 and C70 facelifts; Ferrari F458; Lamborghini Reventon; and the Rolls Royce Ghost.

Gasan Enterprises Ltd on Wednesday organised a Frankfurt Motor Show media briefing in the board room of the Gasan Group in Mrieħel in which details were given on the main innovations for the four car brands: Ford, Jaguar, Mazda and Volvo.

David Gasan, managing director of Gasan Enterprises, welcomed the media and explained the current situation in the market. Malcolm J. Naudi, PR consultant, and James Gatt, marketing executive at Gasan Enterprises, then took the media through a presentation, followed by a Q&A session.

Ford of Europe chairman and CEO John Fleming was quoted as saying that Ford’s market share had been strengthened to number two in a challenging market. “This was achieved by giving our customers the exciting new products that they want, such as the new Ford Fiesta, Ford Ka and Focus RS.”

Ford continued to build on its strong product portfolio with the launch of the all-new Ford C-MAX range, plus a new EcoBoost four-cylinder petrol direct-injection turbo engine range and revealed developments in its plans for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

Two new vehicles were shown on the Ford stand, the five-passenger C-MAX and the seven-passenger Grand C-MAX.

The Ford Focus Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) unveiled in Frankfurt is one of 15 to be used in a trial in Scotland in 2010 as part of a UK low carbon demonstration fleet. Jaguar gave a world motor show premiere to its range-topping XJ, which according to managing director Mike O’Driscoll re-imagines the ultimate sporting luxury car.

Mazda celebrated the 20th anniversary of the MX-5 Roadster with a special show car, the MX-5 Superlight. Volvo showed the all-new C70 and facelifted C30, plus the R-DESIGN treatment for the Volvo XC60.
