President George Abela yesterday visited the Bank of Valletta centre in St Venera, where preparations for the BoV L-Istrina Piggy Bank Campaign are underway.

Dr Abela was greeted by BoV chief executive Tonio Depasquale, and met members of the Malta Girl Guides who are preparing the piggy banks to be distributed in schools and retail outlets. Over 5,000 piggy banks will be distributed around Malta and Gozo. Apart from raising money for L-Istrina, the campaign aims to generate awareness among younger generations of people in need.

The campaign was launched in 2004 and has already contributed over €260,000 in donations - this sum includes funds raised through the campaign as well as donations made by BoV's Community Programme.
