Robert Arrigo insists he would never contemplate crossing the floor, despite being one of the most outspoken Nationalist backbenchers.
Denying that he is a disgruntled politician, the popular Sliema MP tells The Sunday Times in an interview today it is only some "foul-mouthed" people who were giving the impression that he is prepared to switch his allegiances to the Labour Party if he were not given a Cabinet post.
However, he expresses disappointment at the way backbenchers are being treated and says he expects ministers to heed his views and concerns on legislation. Mr Arrigo was elected from two districts in last year's election.
Asked about claims that a group of backbenchers are ganging up to put pressure on Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Mr Arrigo says: "I think the attitude of the backbenchers is that they are talking to him privately. I believe we all make our points of view known and I'm sure he's taken note."
Mr Arrigo also rebuts claims he "bought" any votes prior to the last election, explains his strategy of backing certain local council candidates, and insists that the PN needs to renew itself, especially now that the Labour Party has a new leader.
