Fireworks enthusiasts have requested an urgent meeting with the Home Affairs Minister to discuss fireworks regulations.

In a letter to Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici dated September 28, the Pyrotechnics Association said it was unacceptable for enthusiasts to be faced with "ridiculous" requests in the middle of the festive season.

The association demanded that decisions be taken in ample time since enthusiasts were already working on next year's fireworks shows. The association's legal adviser Michael Falzon lamented that more than a year after lengthy negotiations no decisions had been taken.

He said the implementation of regulations seemed to vary from town to town.

Dr Falzon also accused sections of the media of mounting a campaign against fireworks enthusiasts, insisting they had a hidden agenda.
