A number of physics teachers are being offered the opportunity to visit the European Organisation for European Research at CERN, Geneva, Switzerland, from October 29 to November 3.

CERN is the world's largest and most extensive particle physics laboratory, where the Large Hadron Collider experiment took place in September 2008.

The research carried out at CERN focuses on finding out what the Universe is made of and how it came to be. The aim of the visit is for teachers to familiarise themselves with the world's largest scientific research centre and the work currently being carried out at the centre, and to meet some of the scientists working there.

The visit is being organised by the Maltese Association of Science Educators (Mase) in collaboration with the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE) with Lufthansa's support.

Interested teachers should contact Mase president Elton Micallef on 7953 9522 or e-mail info@masemalta.com by today.
