A free, comprehensive health check-up for dogs is being offered by Dogs Trust Malta, in association with SPCA, to celebrate World Animal Day tomorrow.

For a limited period, dog owners receiving any kind of benefits will be able to get their pets checked, vaccinated, neutered, micro-chipped, wormed and flea-treated for free.

All that owners have to do to take advantage of the offer is call 2142 1140 and register. A voucher will be issued to be used at a vet of their choice.

The new offer follows on from a successful pilot campaign in Valletta, which took place earlier this month, in which dog owners on means-tested benefits could neuter and micro-chip their dogs for €25.

Sarah De Cesare, Dogs Trust campaign manager, said there was a real problem with stray and unwanted dogs in Malta and they were keen to emphasise the importance of neutering and microchipping pets.
