A criminal who threatened an MP over a parliamentary question involving a cleaning contract three years ago has been jailed for three months.
Two Labour MPs, deputy leader Anġlu Farrugia and Shadow Justice Minister José Herrera, had reported that they were threatened by Mario Camilleri, known as l-Imnieħru in a phone call from the Corradino Correctional Facility.
They said Mr Camilleri had tried to intimidate them after they spoke in parliament about the allocation of the cleaning contract to a company belonging to his relatives.
Similar phone calls from Mr Camilleri were received by another MP in previous years, they said.
Magistrate Lawrence Quintano found Mr Camillieri not guilty of making threatening phone calls to Dr Farrugia but guilty of threatening Dr Herrera in court in October 2006.
Dr Herrera told the Court that as he walked out of a court room, Mr Camilleri had pulled him to one side and said that in two months he would be out of prison.
Dr Herrera felt Mr Camilleri wanted revenge following the parliamentary question because the cleaning contract was lost after the intervention.
