Sometimes I wonder if we are part of the EU or not. The EU statistics show a decline in unimployment inthe EU zone, then we get our internal news and there is a increase in unimployment at home. ARE WE INCLUDED IN THE EU MAP OR NOT????

@Carmel Callus
You are wrong. Statistical comparisons are made with the same period last year and forecasts with the same period next year. Elementary, like with like comparisons.

let's face it the truth is the goverment is aggresively cutting off people from the registry ...apart from the fact that etc jobs are usually below humane conditions...who would want to work somewere in a warehouse/garage without air ventilation and a fan. Me personally I would prefer begging for money than from etc..when i was unemployed for a year or so they rhetorically told me that I was only entitled to a pittance about 15 euros a week a think it was. what a joke.

@ Carmel Callus
You can not compare with previous months as certain months employment always increase and others always decrease. You have to compare like with like.

The Government has a very cunning pan for curbing unemployment: making it easier for immigrants to get a working permit - just a couple of euro.
L.N254 /2009 lists the employment license fees at:
-Euro58 for EU Nationals and their family members who are third counry nationals and who are entitled to work
-Euro58 for third country national long-term residents
-Euro58 for asylum seekers: recognised refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection and persons granted analogous forms of protection
AND
-Euro150 on applicaton / Euro80 on issue: All other third country nationals
MALTESE unemployment or Unemployment in MALTA???

@ Mr Callus....
Of course you have to check with a year ago...
Because if a year ago the unemployment was 10,000 (example)
IN NOvember it is 5,000
and evry month after for the next 5 yrs... employment is up by 1 person... u say that there are 5 yrs of more employment...
But in reality you will still be 4,940 Down

Was it not timesofmalta.com that reported yesterday that unemployment went down by 0.1 per cent in August, when compared to July. How is now that you are saying that is has gone up! In employment/unemployment statistics monthly comparisons should be made with the previous month and not with the same month a year ago!
