The Malta Council for Science and Technology together with the Valletta local council, Where's Everybody? and the Chamber of Scientists last Friday organised the so-called "Researchers' Night", with the aim of bringing together the public and local researchers in science and technology.

The event included a science play for children, a number of discussion sessions with researchers about various topics in various Valletta cafés, a European corner, a poster competition and a special edition of Pjazza, aired live on TV, with games that focused on research.

This initiative is a Europe-wide platform for the promotion of science and research, focusing on the individuals involved in this fascinating field. It is hoped that through direct interaction with scientists, people will get a better understanding of what they do, young people will be encouraged to consider science as a career and young researchers will see Europe as a dynamic and exciting place to carry out their research.

This initiative, first launched by the European Commission in 2005, has been highly successful throughout Europe. This year, the events were staged in over 200 European cities and although the activities varied from city to city, they were all staged on the night of September 25.
