The new scholastic year seems to have the same old problems when it comes to the transportation of children from home to school. I could never understand why young children have to get up at the crack of dawn and at half past six in the morning, when it is still dark, and stand on a corner waiting for the minivan. The health authorities insist on children having a good breakfast before going to school and we are continually told this in discussion programmes on television and in specific advertisements.
If they are expected to be out waiting for the bus at such an early hour, when are they expected to have this healthy breakfast? By the way, what time do schools actually open for the children to enter or are they left out in the road in sun or rain and in danger of being run over by traffic?
