Israel confirmed on Wednesday it will release 20 Palestinian women prisoners in return for information from Hamas on the condition of an Israeli soldier held captive in the Gaza Strip.

"The security cabinet decided this morning to approve the release of 20 Palestinian women -- prisoners and security detainees," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement. "According to the proposal by mediators, Israel will receive updated and unequivocal proof of Gilad Shalit's condition."
