The Malta Triathlon Association will be holding the ChooseMalta.com National Championships on Sunday at the Salina Coast Road, starting at 8 a.m.
This year's race looks to be an unpredictable affair in both categories.
Dermot Galea, the 2008 champion, is finding stiff competition from his younger brother Keith fresh from some very positive results in the UK and Belgium, looks set to capture the crown which has eluded him for the past few years.
The two Galea siblings, however, have not raced against each other since last July and the outcome could very well go in favour of the more experienced of the two.
In the women's race, Danica Spiteri and Michelle Wood, the stars of the triathlon contingent at the recently-held Mediterranean Friendship Games in Marsala, will renew battle and the result is anybody's guess.
On paper, Wood has the edge over the current champion but, again, experience could tip the scales in favour of Spiteri.
The Malta Triathlon Association will be assisted by Joseph F. Spiteri & Co Ltd, local agents for Kee Klamps, and Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club.
Other backing for the association is coming from the Malta Tourism Authority, Plum Tree Restaurant and Kristal Water.
