A man was jailed for stealing almost €8,000 worth of jewellery after the court noted he did not take advantage of several chances to change his ways.
Carmelo Castorina, 39, from Naxxar was jailed for three years for breaking into a house in his hometown and stealing jewellery and a laptop in January 2006.
The police had received information that before the theft took place two men were seen acting suspiciously in Mr Castorina's car, which was parked next the burgled house.
Mr Castorina denied being involved in the theft even when confronted with his fingerprints lifted from the burgled house. However, his accomplice admitted to the theft and said he had split the goods with Mr Castorina.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli noted that Mr Castorina did not cooperate at all and did not change his ways even though he had been given several chances.
Police Inspector Raymond Cassar prosecuted.
