A 21-year-old Bulgarian woman was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to charges of smuggling 80 capsules of heroin and cocaine hidden in her stomach.

Ginka Atanasova Stefanova, who lives in Amsterdam, was allegedly caught by officers of the police Drug Squad on her arrival on a flight from Brussels on Saturday evening. It was the third such incident in as many days.

She pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to import drugs to Malta and importing the drugs.

The drugs in her stomach were allegedly found following a medical examination at Mater Dei Hospital.

Magistrate Silvio Meli rejected Ms Atanasova Stefanova's request for bail.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino ap-peared for the woman.
