Maltese flag flies high, very high
This is the first picture sent from Nepal, of the Challenge8000 team at summit of Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m). The Maltese climbers reached the top of the world's sixth highest mountain on Thursday. Greg Attard, Marco Cremona and Robert Gatt took just 8.5 hours to climb the 1050m from Camp 2 where they had been resting. They had climbed 700m from Camp 1 a few hours before. The ascent of Mt Cho Oyu, one of only 14 mountains over 8000m, was the highest to be climbed by Maltese nationals.
The Challenge8000 team will attempt to climb Mt. Everest in March 2010. Mt Everest is 650m higher and lies a mere 30 km from Cho Oyu.

It's nice to see Maltese people being proud of their own flag, rather than one of a foreign country (of which we'll no doubt see quite a few during next year's football world championships).

Congratulations to all the team Greg, Marco and Robert. Sure real the Maltese fly their flag with pride everywhere, to show their pride for their heritage, no matter where they go, Red and White, Goerge Cross and all. This is an achievement of immense pride and joy for all the Maltese where ever we are some thing not many can achieve including my self. But I am elated to see Maltese names amongst others of other Nations from all over the world. Now we can say no matter how little Malta is we can perceive what other nations attempt to achieve. I am very grateful to people like this team who achieve their dreams in the name of our Motherland with passion and pride who share their joy with our nation. Let us pray for their safe journey and for more successful endeavours. I hope that they will be given a heroes welcome through the streets of our Historical City Valletta. Well done guys. The red and white looks stunning on the white snow, under the blue sky matching the George Cross a reward for the heroes of Malta during the War and beyond.

Is this how far one has to go to inhale some clean air in Malta?

Yes Sir.Mr.Bartolo no excuses here we earned the right to fly our national flag all round the islands as you rightly say. I totally agree, we have come a long way since 1940 and show the rest of the world what we Maltese are made of. SO YES I LIKE TO SEE MORE MALTESE FLAGS FLYING PROUDLY, as you say foreign flags take second place for those who want to show us that they are not Maltese Citizens. >>>....... WELL DONE GUYS** WE DONE IT ONCE WE'LL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.....HE WHO DARES WINS, AND WE'VE WON.

Well done brave Maltese people. But it's not all over yet. You have to return safely back to ground floor! So, good luck for the second part of your journey (descending) as well. Then, yes, you can celebrate your victory.
