The Emigrants Commission has appealed to the 21 EU countries which have not yet accepted to take refugees from Malta to do so, arguing that the destination of refugees given temporary refuge in Malta was continental Europe.

The refugees ended in Malta, a country with a density of 3,300 person per square mile, only because they were saved and given refuge when they were in difficulty, the commission said.

It said these people included some who had relatives in these countries, some of whom were willing to offer them accommodation and help them integrate.

The commission also thanked France, Portugal, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Lithuania for accepting the appeal of the European Commission’s vice-president to accept refugees from Malta.
