The uprooting of venerable trees

Even though no NGO of any hue, as far as I am aware, commented on the cutting down of some venerable trees next to the Granaries, in Floriana where so many large manifestations are held, I found this exercise abhorrent.

To me it is hypocritical for "managers" or "directors" to ask workers to fork out money to plant saplings at the back of Għadira while such large shade-affording trees were killed off as was the more than 40-year-old hedge bordering the Royal Air Force monument when this area was done up!

I only hope that a similar scandal will not be foisted on one side of Balluta valley to make way for some "development" or such trees stunted for years as those dislodged next to the ex-Galaxy not completely finished multi-matchbox-like "residences", some already lived in, sporting no periphery or entrance stair railings, presumably with Mepa's blessings.
