Sneijder: Midfielder Wesley Sneijder will miss Inter's visit to Rubin Kazan in the Champions League tomorrow after failing to recover from a hip injury. The injury also kept the Dutchman out of Inter's 1-0 defeat at Sampdoria in Serie A on Saturday. Inter held European champions Barcelona to a goalless draw in their opening Group F game, while Russian side Rubin lost 3-1 at Dynamo Kiev.

Barca duo: Barcelona's Ukrainian defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy will be out for three weeks after straining a knee ligament. Chygrynskiy was already ineligible for tomorrow's Champions League visit of Dynamo Kiev because he appeared for Shakhtar Donetsk in the qualifying stage. France striker Thierry Henry is a doubt after tests showed he had damaged a thigh muscle.

Boruc: Artur Boruc has revealed he would consider signing a new contract at Celtic. Boruc, who last week was omitted from the Poland squad for the World Cup double-header with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, still has almost two years left on his existing deal. "It is a great club to play for. I am still really enjoying it."

German Cup: Bayern Munich must travel to Bundesliga rivals Eintracht Frankfurt in the third round of the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup. The tie, which is the only all-Bundesliga affair since eight top flight teams were knocked out in the second round, was the pick of the draw. Holders Werder Bremen were given a home draw against second division high-flyers Kaiserslautern, who knocked Bayer Leverkusen out in the last round.

Tennis: World number one Roger Federer has withdrawn from next month's Japan Open and Shanghai Masters in order to get some rest. "After consultation with my team and doctors, I decided to take the difficult decision to withdraw from both tournaments so that I can give my body a chance to rest, rehabilitate and fully recover from a physically challenging year," Federer said.

Athletics: Andy Baddeley of Britain and American Shannon Rowbury won the men's and women's races in the Fifth Avenue Mile on Saturday. Baddeley used a late kick to triumph in three minutes 51.8 seconds, 2/10ths of a second ahead of Kenyan Boaz Lalang in the road race along Central Park. Rowbury edged out Briton Lisa Dobriskey, last year's winner, by 6/10ths of a second with a time of 4:23.30. American Sara Hall clocked the same time as Dobriskey, who was awarded second place after a photo finish.

Basketball: The Denver Nuggets have signed former Toronto Raptors forward Joey Graham to their training camp roster. The 27-year-old Graham averaged 7.7 points and 3.7 rebounds in 78 games with the Raptors last season. He started 10 games. Graham was a first-round draft pick of the Raptors in 2005 and has played in 275 career games with Toronto.
