Clive Farrugia and Darren Vella won the gold medal in the skeet pairs competition at the European Commonwealth Shooting Champ-ionships, held on the Isle of Man last weekend.

For the second year running, Maltese shooters left their mark on these championships with Farrugia taking centre-stage by adding a silver medal in the skeet individual event to the gold he won in the pairs.

The talented Maltese shooter finished second with 119 (24, 24, 23, 24, 24) and a 23 in the barrage for a total of 142. Vella also qualified for the barrage, placing sixth overall.

Having advanced to the barrage in the trap pairs event, Eugenio Borg and George Cassar clinched the bronze medal after finishing third .

In the trap individual competition Jason J. Aquilina smashed 67 clays (24, 20, 23), Frank Scorfna 66 (22, 23, 21) and Nicky Carabott 64 (20, 23, 21).

In 10m air rifle pairs, William Vella chalked up 568 points and Lawrence Darmanin 531 to finish fifth overall. In the individual competition, Vella was ninth on 561. Darmanin obtained 548 points to finish 12th, one ahead of Charlò Chircop on 543.

In 10m air pistol, Ray Cacciattolo hit 538 for an eighth-place finish.

In the 0.22 rifle team event, Vella and Darmanin both managed 553 to finish fifth. In the individual event, Vella targeted 571 points, two more than Darmanin.
