Updated: Third airport drug bust made
A Bulgarian woman resident in the Netherlands, Ginka Atanasova Stefanova, 21, this morning pleaded not guilty to association to import drugs in Malta.
The police had earlier said that the woman was arrested after drugs were found in her possession.
The woman was held at the airport on Saturday on arrival on a flight from Brussels.
It was the third such arrest in a week.
As in the other cases, the drugs were hidden in capsules in the woman's stomach.
The police said there were 86 capsules containing a total of 860 grams of cocaine and heroin.
The operation was conducted with the Customs Department.
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi is holding an inquiry. The woman is expected to be taken to court this morning.

For a little island, the number of drugs coming into Malta seem to be making Malta the drug capital of Europe (again, based on it's size)>
Where is malta heading. And we are suppose to have tough drug laws in Malta, but people can get drugs anywhere in malta and Gozo in the open

Why the surge of intercepting these plus a citizen of the Netherlands was caught at the airport carrying E18,000? Doesn't this should be a hint to the authorities that there must be a strong demand for narcotics locally and there must be a big buyer or buyers who are trafficking these drugs?
Good work by the drug squad though. Keep the good work.

Yes it is OUR Maltese Customs Department that have scored lots of successes on drug busts Unfortunately certain foreign people abuse our country as a drug transshipment point and as a stepping mat for illegal entry in Europe!
