A Venezuelan man yesterday admitted to swallowing 83 capsules containing about 800 grams of heroin.
Gerardo Pena, 45, yesterday pleaded guilty to importing and possessing the heroin when he tried to go through Customs with 83 capsules full of heroin in his stomach.
He was stopped at Malta International Airport on Friday at about 3 p.m. on his arrival from Dusseldorf in Germany together with another person.
Although the police received a tip-off that he might be carrying drugs, nothing was found when Mr Pena was searched.
A medical examination later on at Mater Dei Hospital revealed the capsules.
Mr Pena will now appear before a judge to be sentenced because the punishment the crime carries exceeds the competence of the Magistrates' Court. Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted.
