Zejtun celebrates olive-picking season
Zejtun marked the start of the traditional olive-picking season this weekend with Zejt iz-Zejtun, a weekend of cultural activities focused on the pressing of olives.
Organised by the Local Council and supported by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue, the MTA and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, the festival included exhibitions of traditional crafts and free tasting of bread dipped in fresh olive oil.
The activity started with a defile' delivering the olive harvest, including the reading of the 'bandu' and the blessing of the olives prior to pressing.

While I wish to congratulate the Zejtun event, I am really anxious to visit the ‘Lejl f’Casal Fornaro on Saturday 17th Oct. I visited the website www.casalfornaro.com and it's really beautiful and very professional. Actually I'm impressed!!!!

Over the years this tradition and culture was lost. Yet heritage, even if neglected, still runs in our DNA. with this in mind, Zejtun Local Council has during the last years launched a campaign to reintroduce olive tree cultivation and its byproducts. Our overall aim is to increase awareness and love for this heritage on which we can build a sustainable future. This concept and vision spurned us to launch Zejt iz-Zejtun. In this manner the Olive fest becomes an essential link which unites our past with a future in a healthy environment. Thanks to all those who attended and had fun with us. hope to see you all next year on the Sat 25th. Sep 2010 from 7.00pm till midnight and on Sun 26th. Sep from 8.30am till noon.2010

Thanks Raymond. At this stage, we're covering events life festivals, feasts, etc but we also have tours around various villages of Malta and Gozo.
My wife has been speaking with someone already about a possible craft related youtube video. At time we don't get the cooperation we'd like to get and it's not easy to create specific videos but after 5 months, I think we (mostly my wife who's the one that takes the movies and photos and does most of the editing) covered quite a bit and Jasmine has more plans in her Asian brain.
So far she put 61 Malta related videos which you can find on Youtube jasalf5959 Channel.
I'd like to mention that our videos are being shown on Maltese Community channels in Melbourne and in Southern Ontario, Canada and the Maltese abroad love them a lot.

Nice clip. Lots of detail and excellent photography. I think that with a bit more effort it could be turned into a small documentary on Maltese crafts, folklore and foods.
But those grandmasters must surely have had a fantastic life on Malta. Bonaparte and technology were sure spoilers.

We went to see this wonderful festival on Saturday evening and it's one of the best we have seen in Malta. My wife took some photos and movies of the event and put them in Youtube video which I invite you all to watch. Prosit, Zwieten - it was excellent:

well done to the zejtun local council and all those involved - an excellent weekend activity.
hopefully many more will be organised. I even managed to see a score of tourists - and that was still only 9am!
the only pity was the mess some people left behind them. Otherwise, very interesting and educational activity, too!

May i ask why is it when an event such as this, is ALWAYS shown on the times after the event finished? shouldnt they be mentioned before to make the public aware of the event?
