Brawn...lots of it

Squat lifting was on the agenda as The World's Strongest Man competition continued at the Hotel Excelsior this morning.

Thirty men are competing in a series of gruelling events for the prestigious title. The competition, which is watched by 85 million viewers in 70 countries, began at Valletta Waterfront last week.

The feats, which are designed to test the limits of human strength, power and endurance, include the Keg Toss, where athletes compete on who throws a full-sized beer keg highest into the air, and the Truck Pull, which involves pulling a truck across 100 feet.

Competitors will be required to lift cars when the competition resumes this afternoon.

For the final, on October 1, they will be pulling a passenger plane.

The events are open to the public. A detailed schedule can be found on www.theworldsstrongestman.com
