Contraband cigarettes seized
Over two million contraband cigarettes, worth €500,000 in duties, were confiscated by customs' officials last Wednesday.
The cigarettes were found hidden in a container from the Far East that falsely listed its contents as electronic accessories. The discovery was made after weeks of "intensive investigations" by the Customs Enforcement Section and officers at the depot in Hal Far.
A magisterial inquiry is underway.

Is it too much to ask the Customs Officials to NAME the owners of this container? Or is this another cover up to protect the guilty? Maybe the importer did not know about the illegal cigarettes, or maybe he/she forgot to list them in the manifest? Yeah right.
Another one of those business as usual segments? I do give the Customs Enforcement Section and officers a lot of credit otherwise. Good job.
