Salv Mallia, writing about mobile antennae on Balzan parish church (The Sunday Times, September 20) asked some very pertinent questions that merit answers.
I would like to add a further question: Among the residents of Balzan are some very able architects, some quite high-profile. Were these professionals consulted before the antennae were installed?
It is very unfair when parish priests, during their stint in a parish, take the liberty to decide on issues that affect the historic and artistic patrimony of the town or village, without taking into account the feelings of people who were born and bred in that locality, and especially when these decisions cannot be easily reversed.
I hope that Church authorities see the validity of this argument, as much as - I hope - they are aware that not all parish administrators are initiated in refined artistic taste and their credentials for the appreciation and conservation of the parish heritage leave much to be desired.
