Last January the Transport Authority (ADT) announced an extensive road repair programme after storms caused damage to a number of heavily frequented roads. It asked the Cleansing Services Department to clear stormwater culverts blocked by debris.

The culverts in Ta' Xbiex Sea Front (from the former offices of the Permanent EU Representation up to Garden Street) contain not only mud but also tree residue and small stones, blocking these culverts and causing the flooding of Ta' Xbiex Sea Front and coast road. There are about 12 culverts along this pavement and they take a long time to dry, encouraging mosquitoes to breed and invade houses.

The storm also damaged the road surface, causing several cracks to appear. This includes all other roads leading to it, such as Ta' Xbiex Terrace and Antonio Nani Street. Pedestrians cannot use the pavement as they risk being soaked by passing vehicles.

Many residents have reported this to the local council and the ADT, but nothing has been done. These culverts are still blocked and we are now in the rainy season.

This road is regularly used by public buses, open-top double decker tourist buses and heavy duty trucks.
