The World's Strongest Man competition, featuring some outrageous feats of endurance, is making its return to Malta today after a 10-year hiatus.
Some 30 men will compete in a series of gruelling events over a few days for the prestigious title. The competition, which is watched by 85 million viewers in 70 countries, begins at Valletta Waterfront this morning.
Seven picturesque locations around the island have been picked for the staging of the events, ranging from the natural beauty of Golden Bay to the glamour of the Grand Hotel Excelsior.
Men from all over the world have competed annually over the course of the last three decades for the title.
The feats, which are designed to test the limits of human strength, power and endurance, include the Keg Toss, where athletes compete on who throws a full-sized beer keg highest into the air, and the Truck Pull, which involves pulling a truck across 100 feet.
For the final, there is a crazier variant of this feat which involves pulling a passenger plane.
But only the 10 best contestants will make it to the final round, which will take place between October 1 and 3. Entrance to the events is free on a first-come first-served basis and organisers IMG Sports Media urge attendees to arrive in good time for each of the events.
Today's event starts at 9 a.m. and the last activity, the Truck Pull, is at 2 p.m.
