The Federation for Hunting & Conservation - Malta is in perfect agreement with BirdLife Malta's recent demand for the setting-up of a specialised Wildlife Crime Unit, FKNK president Lino Farrugia said in a statement today.

He said that this had become urgent because of the increased number of reports of killing of protected species of wild birds, ever since the verdict issued by the European Court of Justice.

"The FKNK therefore calls on the Prime Minister and the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs to set-up such a unit, and until then to beef-up the present Administrative Law Enforcement Division within the Police Corps," Mr Farrugia said.

He reiterated the FKNK warning of zero tolerance to its members who may still persist with the killing of protected wild birds species.
