Two foreigners have been arrested after they were found in possession of drugs at the airport.

The two were stopped and searched in a joint operation by Customs officers and the police. They had just flown in from Brussels.

The police said the arrested persons were a 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman who was travelling with him. Both were born in Santo Domingo and hold Dutch passports.

Thirty-nine capsules with 400 grams of cocaine were being carried by the man, who was taken to court this afternoon.

Carlos Manuel Martina pleaded guilty to importing the drug and conspiring to deal. He was remanded in custody.

His girlfriend was not accused, but told the court she did not know that he had been carrying the drug.
