Was I surprised at Sweden's nay to Malta's request for tangible solidarity in alleviating our country of a few visitors without a passport! A recent Swedish study correlated the increase in exports with the increase in immigrants in that Scandinavian country. A correlation not without disputers.
However, this study seemed to imply that with the inflow of 12,000 immigrants, the country's product increases by one billion kroners!
Mention was also made of the many new firms set up with new immigrants' participation. In a brief overview of such a study no in-depth analysis is resorted to. For example even back in the years when Malta was still outside the EU and we had stringent exchange control and immigrant restrictions, some immigrants with funds to invest could settle in Malta by setting up a mixed shareholding company offering to do what the locals were not doing.
Something liberal-flaunting Sweden seems to be resorting to even though it pays lip service to the values for example of solidarity which go with EU membership.
But then, what would one expect from a country which allows discriminate abortion of the handicapped?
