Two men who were allegedly caught red-handed by the owner's son trying to burgle a house yesterday pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.
Police sources said Anthony Borg, 26, and Jonathan Calleja, 27, allegedly broke into a house in Birkirkara but were spotted by the owner's son who came face-to-face with them when he returned home and opened the front door. The accused allegedly pushed past him, having made off with over €2,300 worth of electronic equipment. The incident happened on August 22 at about 10 p.m.
The police arrested the suspects on the basis of information obtained through their own sources as the description given by the witness was not very helpful. Eventually the owner's son identified the suspects as the people who burgled his home.
Magistrate Doreen Clarke granted the men bail against a deposit of €2,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.
Lawyers Gianella Caruana Curran, Joseph Giglio and Gianluca Caruana Curran appeared for the men.
