"how could batterred wives expect to be helped when they do o cooperate?"
How could battered wifes be expected to testify if you can be pretty sure that the guy will get a lenient sentence, and probably not go to jail, and go back home to 'set matters straight'?
People on this site often complain about lenient sentences for careless drivers and such, but the real shame in this country is that domestic abuse is still tolerated in practice.

You have to be there in the hall to hear her on the stand. Maybe she was afraid and testified that she was hit accidental. It's not always the court fault in some sentences.Sometimes it has no other alternative.

Philip Pace & Joe Cordina. Were any of you present when the alleged incident happened ? Some people are quick to judge especially when they have never been unfortunate enough to be caught up in a similar incident . As we say in Maltese " minn ihawad il borma ikun jaf xfija.

Maybe this wife was afraid of the aftermath if she testified against her husband. Our courts being what they are, will surely give a minimum, if at all, sentence for this horrible crime.Maybe a fine not more, and what will she do, confined between the boundaries of her four walls with such an agressor. Please open your eyes and do not leave another murder like the recent Tarxien one, happen. We moan and groan about some other cultures that suppress the human rights of women, I don't think we're much better.

Yeah!
And she bumped in the door jamb!
And she fell off the stairs!
And she burnt herself while ironing!
Give us a break, accidentally!
