An Irishman who is currently in Malta but is wanted by the US Environment Protection Agency is unlikely to face a jail term after reaching a plea bargain with the American authorities.
Joseph Anthony O’Connor, 58, surrendered himself today after reaching the plea-bargain agreement, lawyer Patrick Valentino told a court.
Mr O’Connor is wanted in the US for allegedly disposing of building material and chemicals in San Diego Harbour in California three years ago.
Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna issued a final decree where he ordered the extradition of Mr O’Connor. He is expected to leave the island this week.
