The votes of Maltese MEPs on the reappointment of José Manuel Barroso as President of the European Commission are disappointing.
Mr Barroso's Presidency had an important role for the EU's direction towards neo-liberal policies of increased inequality, privatisation, dismantling of public services, inferior work conditions, precarious jobs and lack of clear will in environmental policies. Żminijietna was expecting the Socialist and Democratic groups to support the Green and United Left groups against Mr Barroso. Therefore, while we do not agree with the Maltese Nationalist MEPs position in favour of Mr Barroso we are disappointed with the lack of courage shown by Maltese Labour MEPs who chose to abstain on such an important matter for a social and ecological Europe.
