Police catch four robbers in separate incidents
A father and his son who had just ransacked a house were caught after an off-duty policeman became suspicious about their behaviour.
The police said the thieves, 54 and 24, were seen acting suspiciously in Xarolla Avenue, Żurrieq on Saturday evening and the officer called for assistance.
One of the men was caught straightaway by the District Police and Mobile Squad and the other, who tried to get away, was arrested a stone's throw away.
The two are expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
Meanwhile, another two men were arrested yesterday afternoon shortly after they tried to break into a house in Karmnu Street, Birkirkara.
The police said they were informed by a policeman in the vicinity that the two thieves were being chased by another two men.
When the District Police arrived at the scene they found the two robbers being detained by the policeman.
The police said one of them was carrying a number of tools and signs of forced entry were found on the door.
The two men are known to the police and are being detained for further questioning.

If we had more policemen like these our country would be a safer place to live in. Since they were caught in the act the thieves would probably not get off lightly, or this going to be another case of a suspended sentence or a rehabilitation programme?
