efly operates inaugural flight
Efly, a Malta-based private airline operating a BAe 146-300 aircraft, launched its commercial operations today, with the first flight taking 56 passengers to Catania.
"The Maltese travelling public now has a much wider choice. The owners want this new Maltese carrier to distinguish itself for the level of service offered to the customer, at prices, which are lower than those prevailing today in a monopolistic market," the airline said.
Efly is the brainchild of Italian businessman Luigi Crispino.
Manager Frans Camilleri said the response to the Catania route was overwhelming and the airline planned to operate more routes.
He said the airline would shortly also launch a recruitment campaign.

Everyone has the right to choose, but I`d rather go on ryanair...than on this one....
But not only Ryanair exists and it could be that Ryanair does not operate to various airports such as this one Catania. We hope that this airline will tackle the low-cost routes for Germany, Belgium and Holland as they are not served !!
Good luck.
Usually you would get an Italian Airline with an .it domain. It more sounds like that this is a NEW Airline for the Italian public with an aircraft registered in Malta!!
As for prices `lower than those prevailing today in a monopolistic market`, I have just visited the Air Malta site for a Catania return flight in November, I got a price of 48.45 Euro on an Airbus A319 while the efly site gave me a 79.90 Euro on a BAE 146!!
