Strongest Man contest to be held in Malta
Malta is to host the next edition of The PartyPoker.com World's Strongest Man 2009 contest.
The event was last held here 10 years ago.
The contest was launched in 1977 and is now watched by millions of fans all over the world. It tests the limits of human strength, power, and endurance.
Thirty of the world's strongest athletes will pit their strength in 10 events over four days of qualifying between September 26 and 29, with the top 10 going on to compete in the finals of the event itself, between October 1-3.
There will be free entry for all events, which will see competitors pulling 18-ton trucks, a 45-ton air Malta aircraft, and massive boulders.
The Malta event will be supported by Air Malta, the Malta Tourism Authority, Express Trailers, Coca Cola, and the Grand Hotel Excelsior.

Ten years ago I attended almost every " STRONG MAN " session in Malta. I tell you it was a real education. I spoke to some of the strongest men on Earth, and one of them really impressed me. He said that he was a family man and he entered the competition, for it gave him a temporary income to suppport his family. He said that he liked Mlata and that he will returnas a tourist with all his family members. When asked about his diet he said that he ate normal family lunches which his wife prepared.
One person from Scandinavian countries was a real Giant, and as I stood beside him, my wife did not laugh, but I detected her grin, and the movement of her eyebrows. I saw that man lifting a 100 kilgram man with one hand. While at the Bugibba session, ten years ago I was having my breakfast beside one of the largest competitors. He ordered a dozen boiled eggs and during the short conversation with his girlfriend, he ate all of them. I thought that strength, had to be supported by some means. The physical and mental strength of Man is unbelievable!

Tajjeb li jkollna attivitajiet hekk hawn Malta!
Fuq nota differenti - l'ewwel nies nkunu kapaci niehdu cajta, ghax il-politikanti ma humiex Alla biex nqeghduhom fuq xi pedestal, m'ghandhom xejn ahjar minnha ghax bnedmin bhalna. It-tieni, hemm bzonn li l-politikanti juru rispett lejn dawk li jimxu warajhom mhux jhalluhom l'art f'mument ta' bzonn - ghax kieku tistaqsihom ghal xi kapricc nghid pacenzja! Izgur aqta' meta jigu ghandek biex jsolvulek xi problema, meta tkun gejja l'elezzjoni u jkollhom bzonn il-vot! U qed nghid ghal kulhadd ghax kollha l'istess jaghmlu!

i like the joke, it was really spontaenous. I was actually going to write it myself not on par idejn sodi but maybe these strong men can pull together to get the cost of living down. I am sure that Dr Gonzi himself will appreciate the joke below. Remember laughter is the best medicine. enjoy life and laugh a bit.

Dear Carmelo N Aquilina.
I fully agree with you on how you see things when you are on the gravy train BUT please accept that those still left on the ground see it very, very differently.

C'mon guys, some sense of humour please.
Autumn is still 3 days away, for goodness' sake, lets still smile while its summer!
Of course we respect the politicians, and despite any different views, we all want the best for our country and fellow Maltese.
No disrepsect meant, taking the mickey at a couple of current issues. Despite having myself voted for 'Par idejn Sodi' it does not eman I have to agree with everything that's said and done. I have a couple of reservations about certain issues, and will speak my mind when I have the chance.
I am also willing to laugh at myself, and as long as my intelligence is not offended, I don't mind people with perhaps different political vies to make honest jokes. Same as I expect Muscat's followers not to be offended when their leaders is quoted for mirth ('Call-me-Joseph and Love-U-Joseph')
Peace & Love to all.

Att Marcel Dingli: Par idejn sodi qiegħed il-ħin kollu jitħabat biex inti flimkien mal-Maltin u l-Għawdxin ikolna moħna mistrieħ li fl-aħħar tax-xahar nirċievi l-paga, il--pensjoni u s-servizzi soċjali kollha ħabieb. Dawk il-par idejn sodi fil-mument jinsabu mal-kbar ta' l-Ewropa jiddiskuti biex l-ewwel wieħed int tkun moħħok mistrieħ minn ħajja aħjar, sptar u mediċini b'xejn, biex uliedek ikollom l-aħjar edukazzjoni b'xejn, biex il-Maltin ikollom ix-xogħol!
Ħabieb nawgurgħalek li titgħallem iġġib rispett lil-mexxejja Maltin u mhux tipprova iddaħħaq, u b'hekk tkun iżjed bniedem Malti li jkun verament jixraqlek rispett, u fl-istess tkun qed taqdi dmirek billi tgħin biex l-affarijiet nazzjonali jirnexxu kif nispera li inti raġel biżżejjed li tixtieq li jiġri hekk ukoll! Saħħa ħija Malti!

@ Marcel Dingli - that was good! Prosit :-)
I heard that part of the feat will be Demolishing City Gate and carrying the huge 'tal-franka' blocks for Piano's Valletta Gate.
If that does not fail, they'll have a go at carrying the Govt Debt.
