Palumbo S.p.A., a shipyard based in Naples, has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Malta Shipyards ship repair facilities in Cospicua, the government announced today. (The Finance Ministry originally erroneously announced that the bid was for the Marsa ship repair facilities)

It said the Privatisation Unit has advised Palumbo S.p.A. accordingly and will proceed to open negotiations with this bidder.

Palumbo has been involved in ship repair and ship conversion since 1967. It has floating docks in Naples and a 70,000 ton dry dock in Messina.

The privatisation process has seen the facilities of Malta Shipyards divided into four facilities - the ship repair yard in Cospicua, the former Marsa shipbuilding yard, the super yachts facility in Cospicua and Manoel Island Yacht Yard.

Preferred bidders ave already been selected for the Marsa yard and the Manoel Island facility.
