GWU warns Enemalta of industrial action
The General Workers' Union has warned Enemalta Corporation of possible industrial action if it contracted a private security firm to do work the union says can easily be done by the present workforce. The union said the corporation was refusing to meet its officials to discuss the matter.
It said it had been insisting on the re-training of the present workforce so they could be able to fulfil different duties but the appeal always fell on deaf ears. The union said the company should always give its workforce priority over private workers, adding that it would never accept that these would replace Enemalta employees.
Questions sent to Enemalta remained unanswered by the time of writing.

D Vella..if making workers redundant to employ contract workers is your idea of modern times, then lets all embrace old fashioned ideas! I trust his son or father is not amongst those being declared redundant.... It is time that people like DVella realised that there are stills one unions in Malta who are willing to defend the workers....and despite the rantings and ravings of people of his ilk, still have the strength to do so.

The GWU is defending its members as it has every right to do especially seeing how workers are being treated by the Gonzipn Government and employers.

If the Enemalta workers wish to undertake security work, why do they not apply to the private company for a job.
Was there not a mention somewhere that we are short of nurses for the hospital - perhaps the GWU should insist that Enemalta re-train the present workforce to take on some of those posts if they believe the workers are so flexible.

NIce to know the GWU is up to it's usual tricks . . . . ! I suppose it gives on outdated and long obsolete dinosaur and its marxist mentality some sort of a reason to justify its sad existence . . . !!

It would be interesting to know who the private company is.
