Burmarrad enterprise park approved
Mepa this afternoon gave the expected go-ahead for the development of an enterprise park for small and medium sized enterprises in Burmarad, at the bottom of T'Alla w Ommu hill.
The park is one of three projected by the government. One of their purposes is to encourage workshops (such as mechanics and carpenter shops) to move out of village cores, where they often cause disturbance to neighbours. The other parks are being built near Zabbar and in Gozo.
The Burmarrad site will include warehouses and basement parking. Buildings will be in four clusters with up to 150 units in all.
The site had been identified and approved in the SME site selection exercise.

I can understand removing all those workshops and mechanics in built up areas, but why do we have to continue to destroy whatever is left of our countryside and good agricultural land when we have so many factories which are empty? This is simply wasting our taxes when they can us e the empty factories and if necessary dividing them between different users.

I have to admit that I am rather disappointed that this project has been given the go-ahead as it means that more of our precious countryside will be disappearing.
On the other hand there are industrial estates like Mriehel for example, which in some areas is turning into a ghost estate with many large empty factories, some already half demolished, others left in ruins.
Why is it that the government is hell bent in using our shrinking countryside for new developments?...... The new gas plant and the recycling plant come to mind, I would have thought that the ideal place for them would have been Hal-Far industrial estate, all under the one roof so to speak.

Effectively this means more traffic, pollution and degradation of the north when scattered elsewhere there are other half-baked industrial estates, which if properly restructured can accomodate many other new shops. This would have avoided the opening of another sore wound, which slowly slowly will grow into the nearby surrounding areas (will effect Naxxar ,Mosta and very arable land further north ) - now we can say that no part of Malta has been spared this so called 'development ' - and by the way , how this fits into the eco-tourism picture which the Government wants to drive forward ? who are we kidding exactly

Are these units in Burmarrad Goverment owned or are they Private
Lets hope that after they offer these units to allready up and going business , they will think of unemployed people that wish to start a new business .Will these Units have sky high rent like they are in Handaq, Mosta, Luqa, Imrieħel..

@ Clive Aquilina Spagnol i dont know what is your problem, what is wrong with tal- handaq ? it is a industrial area , what do you except some nice fancy resturants .
