Overlooked basic concept

Various articles and letters have been published regarding the controversial designs by Renzo Piano. I feel this controversy and ongoing discussion seems to be missing the original concept of the existing old theatre and Freedom Square, in Valletta.

Various articles and letters have been published regarding the controversial designs by Renzo Piano.

I feel this controversy and ongoing discussion seems to be missing the original concept of the existing old theatre and Freedom Square, in Valletta. The theatre, even in its war-damaged state, is still the remains of a building. The square is an open-air space. Hence, logically, the theatre should be reconstructed as a building and the square be treated as an open-air tented space. At this point, it is irrelevant if the reconstructed theatre follows the original designs or whether the final product be a mixture of retaining the war-damaged parts and adding on an ultra-modern high-tech mirror image design of the original façade.

Here, it is the basic concept of the project that seems to have been missed.
