68 migrants being brought to Malta
A group of 68 illegal immigrants is to be brought to Malta this evening after a dinghy was intercepted by an AFM patrol boat, the AFM said.
The migrants' dinghy was reported by a fishing boat yesterday and had been monitored by the AFM. The migrants were taken on board patrol boat P51 when sea conditions deteriorated, some 28 miles off Malta.
The group included 14 women and seven children.

If my sightness served me right... They were in a very healthy state, (thank God)..!!!
Supposedly Crossing such rough seas..... They looked more like having disembarked from a cruise liner than just any other peice of a boat or dingy....!!!

SEND THEM BACK. SEND THEM BACK. SEND THEM BACK !! and start sending back also the thousands which are alreadyhere illegally. By burdening our country with this influx of more and more illegals, we are not solving anyone's problems. We are just adding to OUR problems. So...... SEND THEM BACK !! As simple as ABC but they make it look like it's the most complicated issue in the world.

Exactly my thoughts............These illegals have become vampires on our welfare system. Then we hear Tonio Fenech yesterday announcing that there would be no income tax cuts in the next budget. Rough justice Tonio!!!!!! Get these people out of Malta because they have NO right to live and work in Malta. Africa is NOT part of the EU and it will never be. The majority of them are economic migrants and there is hardly any work for us Maltese and the rest of the EU let alone for these illegals.

There we go again. How irrisponsible to bring 7 children on a small boat in rough weather. Ghalhekk biss nerga nibghathom lura kieku ha jiehdu lezzjoni. U x'kumbinazzjoni kollha jghidu li mis-Somalia jew l-Eritrea. Il-gideb taghhom m'ghandux limitu. U sadanittant nibqghu inhallsu t-taxxi ghalihom. Tajjeb ukoll.

This is OUR country and NO one else except NATURAL MALTESE CITIZENS has any right to come and stay here. They should solve their problems in their own countries and not impose themselves upon us to live like leeches on OUR taxes. Just because I have a dream of winning the Super5 or getting a big yacht and sail the world I don't go and hold up the Lotto Headquarters or steal a yacht. That is what ILLEGAL immigrants are doing Ryan, stealing our country and money.

Illegal immigration alone is enough to make PN lose all the coming elections. Let all alone cost of living, utility bills etc. PL can just wait and do nothing in the meantime.

Since these Immigrants want to come here in Europe at ALL costs, instead of going to any other safe place in Africa which is Literally Huge. Then we should send them back at ALL costs. Because anyone who abuses from our compassion and generosity DESERVES NONE.

...and do you think that by sending them back to Libya it will solve the whole problem of illegal immigration?
The issue must be taken from the roots... educating the people in their home countries where this is possible.
I just returned from Ghana on voluntary work... and we were also talking to the young people there about the issue of immigration and that it's not always greener on the other side as they might imagine... did it make a difference? well I doubt... because when you believe in a dream... just like our ancestors who lived the American/UK/Australian/Canadian dream did... then... very little will stop you from living that dream.
Maybe this article http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8251376.stm will make you think a bit and perhaps make you think twice before passing all the racist comments whenever a boatload of immigrants reaches our shores...

When will the government learn? They should have been turned away back to Libya .
This is simply sending any future illegal immigrants a message that it is ok to come to Malta as long as they are "not seen" by any Italian patrol boats and are not heading towards Italy or any Italian islands .
The illegal immigrants are going to simply come here instead , so that in some months they will be sent to Europe .. Malta is fast becoming the bus terminus to Europe .
Send ALL boats back like Italy are doing ... Take an example from Italy NOW not later .

Does the famous Refugee Convention say that a small island of 400 000 inhabitants has to take an unlimited number of African refugees? If it does not, why do we keep taking them? If it does, we should ignore it because it is obviously unreasonable and inapplicable.

Our dear PM, who has often reiterated his preferred motto, "Par idejn sodi" either has lost his grip or else, wonder of wonders, it was a facade which the PN projected of their leader who actually was never a person with "Par idejn sodi". So what to do dear PM, leave these migrants head on their destiny and thus also please the majority of the Maltese who are seeing this situation as a threat to their economy and physical well being, or else do what EU guy Barroso said and help them out, give them shelter and continue to burden our country with more debts? What a dilemma..can Gonzi handle it by resorting to the usual passive approach?

Without entering into the merits of the case, I would like readers to consider that whilst up to last years - when numbers were greater than those registered this year - just a small fraction of arrivals were indeed entitled to apply for refugee status and a further half of all arrivals were considered for humanitarian status, this year the number of arrivals are mainly from Somalia which means they are likely to be allowed to remain here unless countries such as the US or some of the more dignified EU partners relieve Malta of some them.
Something is quite suspect on the way things have developed this year!

Why doesn't Gonzi order the AFM to do what the Italians are doing and call the Libyans to pick them up?
Bringing them here and keeping illegal immigrants here is playing with fire Gonzi.

In the meantime Dr Gonzi is preparing his speech for the Independence Day celebrations on Sunday 20th September. Of course he will not speak about the loss of Malta's sovereignty as it is forced to swallow increasing numbers of illegal immigrants. He will not speak of the financial burden on Maltese taxpayers, forced to carry the growing burden of illegal immigrants. He will speak of the Pope's visit and Christian values.
