Rocking for charity
The magical touch of world-renowned projection artist Ross Ashton lights up the orchestra during Saturday's concert of Rockestra, a fusion of rock and classical music featuring a number of popular local performers in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund. The event was held under the patronage of President George Abela and Mrs Abela.

The show - musicwise - was just fantastic and truly showed the great musical talent existing in Malta.
The musical arrangements were just great and show the brilliance of the musical arrangements of Sigmund Mifsud. Of course all the musicians and singers need to be congratulated for their brilliant performance. BUT, yes there is always a but and here I totally agree with Anthony Debono. the cameraman responsible for the images on the 'big' screens must haver been asleep or this was his first ever show. One would have thought Sigmund was conducting, playing all the instruments and singing as well - all on his own. When a singer was on on stage we got an image of Sigmund, when we had a solo from a member of the orchestra - yes you guessed it - we still got an image of Sigmund.
More professionalism is needed when such a show is put on, but please let us have more of this kind of entertainment - and all for a good cause as well.

Great show, and a clear demonstration of how shows should be done! The organisation was brilliant and the lineup was superb! We have to continue to believe in our local talent and support it all the way! Prosit and I ( and alot of other people) will be waiting to attend yet another show that clearly brings out the best of our proud and top-quality Maltese character!

My previous comments were only as a way to improve things for next year's performance - i.e. organisers please note!
Being that the orchestra members are static (i.e. don't move around), how about placing the stage in the arena/venue centre a la Shakespeare style or more recent the U2 360?

I must say a big PROSIT to Sigmund, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Joseph Calleja Choir and all the local talent singers for the excellent performance. I am looking forward to next year's!!! But...there is always a but... a) I was sitting at the very back, so based on this: the venue's accoustic was hopeless; b) the 4 plasma (?) screens located behind the choirs and the sides provided us with what's going on stage, weren't they? NO. The programme director preferred to picture Sigmund, mostly, even when there were the soloists. Since it was a show by the orchestra, I expected some exposure (close-ups) of its members. Give them some credit. They surely deserve it!!! c) It is a SHAME that there was a continuous murmur from the general public: while the National Anthem was being played as well as during the songs. Aren't these persons meant to come and see and listen to the great music? If you're not interested in the song, just shut up and let others enjoy the music. End of my but ;-)

It was a memorable evening.... well done to everyone involved in the planning and organisation. The music, back drops, choir and sound..... everyone wished the evening not to end.
However, I am really disappointed that it was given very low coverage, considering that the place was swarming with journalists and photographers.
