A 44-year-old man from Pembroke this morning pleaded not guilty to trying to seriously injure his wife following an argument at their home in Pembroke yesterday evening.
He also pleaded not guilty to threatening her, swearing in public and driving his car dangerously.
Defence counsel Lorraine Schembri Orland contested his arrest and said the charges were exaggerated and stemmed from an argument over the removal of a car from the drive way of their house.
Police Inspector Trevor Micallef said that the man tried to run over his wife with his car.
The couple, who have three children, are currently going through separation proceedings.
Magistrate Myriam Hayman said that while she acknowledged that the two still lived in the same house, she was granting the accused bail on condition that he did not speak about the case to his wife. Should he do so, he would be arrested.
